Weekly Study Tips # 2

Taking notes in class...

Taking notes in class is actually much more important than you think...
It's not just about copying down stuff the teacher says... It's also about helping you memorize the information taught in class so that you can be better prepared for quizzes, tests, ect...

Anyways... Here are some methods of taking good notes:

- BE NEAT!!!
never think that if you write messy, you can still read it afterward, cuz trust me, YA CAN'T!!! i've tried doing that before, and the consequences weren't that good... I couldn't decipher a single word I wrote, so I ended up having to rewrite everything again from the textbook :P

- DRAW DIAGRAMS ON YOUR NOTES (and label them, too :D)
When I said "draw diagrams", I am not saying that this is a chance for you to doodle smiley faces and hearts on your notebooks... (in fact, that's the exact opposite of what I was saying) What I meant was that you should always draw diagrams that can help you memorize the stuff you're learning! and seriously, DO NOT DOODLE ON YOUR NOTES...

this is a BAD example of a student's notebook... XP
for those of you who thinks I'm just joking around... I'M NOT!!!!!

Requirements for Admission

(the information below is exactly the same as what it says on the Johns Hopkins Medical School website, so yea... that's all the information.)

Preparations for Medical School...
The courses taken and the grades earned are just a portion of an applicant’s credentials. Certain areas of study (ex: introductory biology, chemistry, physics - associated with laboratory exercises and calculus) have traditionally been a requirement for students applying for medical schools. The field of concentration for undergraduate studies and the selection of additional courses in the sciences and mathematics should be the choice of the student and won't affect the admission process.

Requirements for Admission... (required for ALL applicants)

1) Accredited Institution: All applicants must be or have previously been in attendance at an institution on the list entitled “Accredited Institutions of Postsecondary Education,’’ authorized and published by the American Council on Education. Extension or evening courses taken in fulfillment of premedical course requirements are not acceptable unless they are identical to courses offered in the college’s regular academic program. Preparation in foreign universities (in most cases) must be supplemented by a year or more of work in an approved university in the United States.

2) Standardized Testing: The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is required for acceptance.

3) Required Academic Work: A list of specific pre-medical course requirements are listed below.....
    - BIOLOGY
    - CHEMISTRY
       a) General Chemistry
       b) Organic Chemistry
       c) Biochemistry
    - PHYSICS
    - MATH
       a) Calculas
       b) Statistics
    - HUMANITIES, SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES
   *Addtional Requirements*
    - COMPUTER LITERACY
    - COMMUNICATION SKILLS
    - TEAMWORK SKILLS

4) Letters of Recommendation: A recommendation from the applicant’s college premedical committee or an officially designated premedical advisor is required. If the college does not have a premedical advisor or premedical committee, two letters of recommendation are required from science faculty members in science departments who have taught the applicant and one non-science faculty member who has also taught the applicant. In addition to the letters indicated above, applicants with advanced degrees and/or full time employment are required to submit recommendations from each component of their education and major work experiences.

Weekly Study Tips # 1

The library is NOT a good place for studying!!!

Many of you may think that the library is the best environment for studying...
well I hate to break it to you guys (or girls?), but you're- ABSOLUTELY WRONGGGGGGGG!!!
And here are the reasons why...

First of all, what usually happens when you go to the library to "study" is that you would end up going on the computer and start facebooking or playing online games... =.="
Yea... I know what you're thinking... I READ YOUR MIND, DIDN'T I?!?! 0.0
well I'm pretty sure that this is a fact for most teenagers... I mean, I sometimes do that, too,............... but we can just overlook that part! XP (don't tell my mom...)
anyways... moving on to the second reason!

Second reason...
now, this is actually a pretty serious problem, cuz this has happened to me MANY times already, and it's quite frustrating actually...
so, as you all know... the library is a public place, so... you would occasionally run into very inconsiderate people...
and by "inconsiderate people", I don't mean like the kind of people who litters or something...
I mean the people who can't tell that you seriously don't feel like talking to them, but they would just keep on talking and talking and talking and talking and talking and talking and talking.... and... well you get my point! XD
for example... if you're REALLY UNLUCKY, like me... then everytime you go to the library, you would run into inconsiderate people who can't see that you are trying to study, but they just keep on talking to you, cuz as i said, they're inconsiderate, and eventually, they will start recommending you books that doesn't even look a slight interesting, like the history of civil war or something, i mean seriously, who would want to read that on a regular basis, anyways, I just got off topic, as I was saying, you, as a good citizen would try to act polite and not interrupt the interrupter, so you would simply sit there and listen patiently, but meanwhile, thinking, "OMGGGGGG, I hope she/he can just SHUT UP!!!" ... (hehe, that was a long sentence... with lots of punctuation errors...)
sigh... anyhoo... some people are just like that... and there's nothing we can do about them... :P
ohhh, and if YOU'RE one of those people... then........- GO AWAY!!! I DON'T LIKE YOU!!!

haha, jk... BUT SERIOUSLY... O.o"

... *awkward silence*...

ok bye~ XDDDD
hope you enjoyed my little rant! :P
and if not, then... please don't leave any hateful comment... just CLICK AWAY, and ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!!
BUH BYE~

(this is a library at Johns Hopkins... omg, looks like a cathedral XD)
